The Cumberland County District Attorney's Office (CCDA) in Carlisle, PA faced a critical storage issue within its Forensic Investigation Division. Weapons, associated ammunition, and equipment were scattered across multiple locations, leading to inefficiencies and security concerns. With their current storage area at full capacity, the county approved a building addition to address the problem. However, a well-designed system was necessary to ensure that all items could be stored securely and efficiently within the new footprint to maximize the space.
To resolve CCDA’s storage challenges, DSS conducted a comprehensive site assessment and collaborated with staff to design a concise, safe, and secure solution. As a result of the findings of the collaborative site assessment and thoughtful discussions with CCDA, the DSS team found the best solution was to implement a Spacesaver Mechanical Assist High-Density Mobile Storage (HDMS) system, integrating Spacesaver 4-Post shelving and Weapons Rack III for long weapon storage. The system was installed with recessed rail in concrete, maximizing vertical storage space. Additionally, extra rail was embedded in the concrete to proactively allow for future expansion as storage needs grow.
The new system provided a single, secure location for all weapons, ammunition, and equipment, significantly improving organization and security. By maximizing the available space within the new building addition, CCDA efficiently accommodated its current inventory while ensuring room for future growth.
The Director of the Forensics Division praised our team for ensuring a smooth operation from start to finish, even successfully navigating a few challenges during the installation. The improved layout and secure storage solution enhanced operational efficiency, providing staff with a well-organized, scalable storage system that meets both present and growing future needs that they are excited to begin using.
